Azithromycin 250mg Dosage & Uses

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. The dosage depends on the condition being treated, age, and medical history.

General Dosage Guidelines

For Adults:

Respiratory Infections, Skin Infections, Ear Infections

  • 500mg on Day 1, followed by 250mg once daily for 4 more days (Total: 5 days).

Chlamydia (Sexually Transmitted Infection – STI)

  • Single dose of 1g (1000mg) once (4 tablets of 250mg).

Typhoid Fever

  • 500mg once daily for 7 days.

Traveler’s Diarrhea

  • 500mg once daily for 1-3 days.

For Children (Above 6 months, based on weight)

Respiratory Tract Infections, Skin Infections, 10mg/kg on Day 1, then 5mg/kg once daily for 4 more days.

Important Instructions

 Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for better absorption. Do not skip doses and complete the full course to avoid antibiotic resistance.  Avoid alcohol while taking azithromycin. Side Effects: Nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness (consult a doctor if severe).
