Description
Zopiclone 7.5 mg
Zopiclone is a prescription medication primarily used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early). It belongs to a class of drugs known as non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (also called “Z-drugs”).
Zopiclone works by acting on the central nervous system to help induce and maintain sleep. It is commonly prescribed under brand names such as Imovane, Zimovane, or various generics.
Mechanism of Action
Zopiclone acts as a GABA-A receptor agonist.
It enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that inhibits brain activity.
By increasing GABA’s calming effects, zopiclone helps produce:
-
Sedation and relaxation
-
Reduced time to fall asleep (sleep onset latency)
-
Longer total sleep duration
-
Fewer nighttime awakenings
Unlike benzodiazepines, zopiclone has a shorter half-life and is less likely to cause next-day drowsiness when taken correctly.
